MISSION AND HISTORY

What is the School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS)?

Evolving from a twin mission of engagement with and service to New York, SCPS incarnates NYU’s founding idea of being “In and Of the City.” Its undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education programs capture the expertise of professionals and the knowledge generated within many of the defining economic, cultural, and technology sectors where the New York region leads on the global stage.

General Mission

Through its commitment to provide timely and broadly accessible university-level education for motivated students of all ages, SCPS educates socially responsible, resourceful and globally competent professionals who, as lifelong learners, develop the knowledge, skills, and habits of mind to advance their fields and their communities.  In so doing, SCPS serves through its students, alumni, and full-time and clinical faculty as the NYU academic home for many vibrant world-wide professional networks.
