NEW YORK July 20, 2007 — Three students in New York University’s graduate program of Human Resource Management and Development, part of the School of Continuing and Professional Studies will be awarded a $10,000 scholarship from The Employment Line, a New York City based search firm, on July 24, 2007. The Employment Line Scholarship in Innovation is the first to be established by a recruitment organization.
The scholarship will be presented to students: Ahson Raza, of West Trenton, NJ; Yuka Natsudaira, of North Bergen, NJ; and Carolina Toro, of Bogota, Colombia; for their projects demonstrating how Human Resources departments can create innovation within a company.
“Human Resource Departments are an emerging force in the business world. The next wave of employees will have to lead the transformation of HR to new responsibilities that drive organizational success,” said Alan Lawrence, president of The Employment Line. “The Employment Line scholarship will help ensure that in this new era in organizational management the future success of companies will be led by HR departments directed by forward thinking individuals who are creative, innovative and possess problem solving skills.”
The scholarship winners were chosen among the NYU-SCPS Human Resource Management and Development graduate students who have successfully completed the Managing Complex Change and Initiatives course.
“This scholarship is important because it emphasizes the increasing role Human Resource departments play in the growth of companies,” said Dennis Garritan, director and clinical associate professor, Graduate Programs in Human Resource Management and Development at NYU. “ Corporations are realizing that, when properly utilized, human resource employees can make a great contribution to the bottom line.”
The Employment Line will announce the topic of next year’s scholarship at the company’s annual human resources seminar in November. The topics at this year’s seminar will be the rise in requests for background checks for temporary employees and how American human resource departments are affected by international events.
