Three Day Conference Runs From January 8-10, 2009
WHAT:
The NYU George H. Heyman, Jr. Center for Philanthropy and Fundraising, the University’s home for applied research and professional education in the fields of fundraising and grantmaking, will host a three day conference on global higher education fundraising. Topics to be discussed include the current economic crisis and its implications on the global economy, fundraising in times of financial crisis, technology as a fundraising tool, how to use consultants for fundraising, corporations and global philanthropy, the impact of globalization on philanthropy, and more.
The Heyman Center aims to support nascent fundraising efforts by foreign colleges and universities, now growing fast as governments increasingly roll back state-support for higher education. These institutions look to learn from the long-established American model of funding higher education through private, philanthropic support.
WHO:
Presenters include experts in higher education fundraising such as Naomi Levine, chair and executive director of the NYU George H. Heyman, Jr. Center for Philanthropy and Fundraising, Timothy Higdon, deputy executive director for external affairs, Amnesty International USA, and Robert Kissane, president of Community Counselling Service.
Attendees include three dozen higher education development officers from such countries as Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Israel, Italy, South Africa, New Zealand, Sweden, The Netherlands, Hong Kong and the U.K.
INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITIES:
Naomi Levine, chair and executive director, NYU's George H. Heyman, Jr. Center for Philanthropy and Fundraising and former senior vice president for external affairs at NYU. Ms. Levine will be teaching "How to Be a Successful Fundraiser," a fundraising seminar offered at NYU-SCPS on April 25.
