Using advanced functional imaging methods, New York University neuroscientists have found that certain motion pictures can exert considerable control over brain activity. Moreover, the impact of films varies according to movie content, editing, and directing style.
The study's authors—David Heeger, NYU Professor of Psychology and Neural Science; Uri Hasson, currently with the Neuroscience Institute, Princeton University; Barbara Knappmeyer, NYU Computational Neuroimaging Laboratory; Nava Rubin, NYU Center for Neural Science—along with Michael Grabowski, adjunct instructor in the Film, Video, and Broadcasting program at the NYU School of Continuing and Professional Studies, will discuss the connection between film and neuroscience.
