This fall, NYU-SCPS is offering a new Certificate in Behavioral Economics and Finance Theory program, which explores the thriving field of behavioral economics and the models that bring together theories of human psychology with neoclassical economics.
Offered through the Division of Programs in Business, the new certificate program is designed for practitioners who manage financial assets and need a better understanding of investors’ behavior and the impact of that behavior on financial markets. Understanding the psychology behind complicated patterns within the financial markets is said to create opportunity and reduce the inherent risk and speculation for sophisticated investors.
“This certificate is both timely and necessary,” says Michael Oberstein, finance department clinical professor and chair. “Determining how and why market prices can deviate dramatically from long-term valuations dictates whether a practitioner succeeds or fails.
The certificate is awarded to students who successfully complete six required courses.
