James and Marjorie Kuhn Give $1 Million Gift to REI

Creating Program to Broaden Access and Diversify Real Estate Profession

The Real Estate Institute (REI) has received a $1 million gift from James and Marjorie Kuhn to endow The James and Marjorie Kuhn Program to Foster Diversity in Real Estate. One of the larger gifts ever given to the Institute and the School of Continuing and Professional Studies, the Kuhns’ endowment will fund recruitment, scholarships, mentoring, placement, and other activities to assist the Institute in broadening access and ultimately increasing the numbers of future real estate professionals from diverse backgrounds.

Special Internship for Global Affairs Students at a United Nations Mission

Before enrolling in the M.S. in Global Affairs at NYU-SCPS, Jesse Cameron-Glickenhaus spent a year in the South Pacific’s Marshall Islands, teaching descendants of people from the Bikini Atoll who were forced from their home when it was made uninhabitable by years of U.S. nuclear weapons tests. With eyes opened to the mounting problems of pollution and climate change faced by Pacific island nations, Cameron-Glickenhaus jumped at the opportunity to work with the Permanent Mission of Palau to the UN, through a special internship program established with the NYU-SCPS Center for Global Affairs (CGA).

Hospitality Conference Celebrates 30th Year

Combine two visionaries, the hotel capital of the world, and an entrepreneurial university eager to embrace its unique location, and the result is the prestigious NYU International Hospitality Industry Investment Conference—among the preeminent “must attend” events for professionals in this global industry. Recognizing the need for a higher education anchor to strengthen the industry, hotel consultant and executive and SCPS adjunct faculty member Stephen W. Brener initiated the the hospitality industry conference through the NYU Real Estate Institute in 1978.
