Learn "The Craft of the Story" at NYU-SCPS, with Writers Peter Selgin, Melissa Febos and Christina Lazaridi

Four-Day Intensive Workshop Runs May 13-16, 2010

NEW YORK, April 26, 2010 - "The Craft of the Story," an intensive four-day program which teaches beginner and intermediate-level writers the fundamentals of storytelling in various genres, runs next month at the New York University School of Continuing and Professional Studies (NYU-SCPS).

The faculty includes noted writers Peter Selgin, author of Drowning Lessons and Life Goes to the Movies (teaching fiction writing); Melissa Febos, author of Whip Smart (teaching memoir writing); and Christina Lazaridi, the Academy Award-nominated screenwriter of One Day Crossing (teaching screenwriting).

Offered through the NYU-SCPS Division of Liberal Studies and Allied Arts, "The Craft of the Story" features lectures on technique, writing exercises, and directed readings or screenings of relevant works.  Under the direction of a successful writer and teacher in their chosen area of concentration – fiction, memoir, or screenwriting – students will immerse themselves in writing, attending two 3-hour sessions a day.

The program will also provide students with the opportunity to connect with faculty and with each other during special events such as the opening reception and a closing celebration with student readings.  On Saturday, May 15, Maureen Ryan, co-producer of the Academy Award-winning documentary Man on Wire, and program director and author of Master Class in Fiction Writing Adam Sexton will offer a presentation on applying to graduate programs in writing.

"The Craft of the Story" (X32.9380) runs May 13-16, 2010. For more information, please visit www.scps.nyu.edu/summer or contact program director Adam Sexton at adam.sexton@nyu.edu.
