NEW YORK, July 27, 2010 —The New York University School of Continuing and Professional Studies (NYU-SCPS), home to NYU’s fourth largest graduate student community in a variety of professional fields, announced today that the NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate will offer a Master of Science in Real Estate Development (MSRED). Along with the Master of Science in Construction Management and the Master of Science in Real Estate, this will be the third graduate degree capturing the specialized academic expertise of NYU Schack faculty and leading industry practitioners.
The 42-credit graduate MSRED program will offer greater depth of focus in the discipline of development than existing Schack master’s programs. The curriculum consists of 12 required core courses and two electives, which can be taken in different areas, such as Strategic Real Estate Management, Finance and Investment Analysis, or Construction Management. Students will be able to choose among three concentrations: 1) Sustainable Development, which will emphasize green practices in construction, planning, and development; 2) The Business of Development, which will offer courses on entrepreneurial real estate, advanced finance, and public-private partnerships; and 3) Global Real Estate, which will address issues arising in comparative international real estate development and will involve structured short-term overseas study experiences. The MSRED curriculum prepares students for careers as entrepreneurial developers or for leadership positions within private or public organizations.
NYU-SCPS Dean Robert Lapiner reports, “This exciting and innovative new program expands and refines the curricula offered by the NYU Schack Institute and reflects its high standards and deeply rooted commitment to prepare responsible leaders for a global industry.”
In comparison to the Institute’s well-established Master of Science programs which are directed toward professionals with significant relevant industry experience, the new M.S. in Real Estate Development is conceived to educate students in the early stages of their careers and is well-suited for students with a broad diversity of experience.
