NYU Tisch Center's Lalia Rach to Get Her "Just Desserts"

Loews Hotels CEO Jonathan Tisch to Host Roast and Fundraiser Honoring Longtime Dean of NYU’s Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Business Programs, June 7, 2010

NEW YORK, April 20, 2010 — Lalia Rach, longtime divisional dean of the NYU Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management, will finally get her “just desserts” during the upcoming 32nd Annual NYU International Hospitality Industry Investment Conference in New York City.

Loews Hotels CEO and conference chair Jonathan Tisch will host a celebratory roast and fundraiser, “Lalia’s Just Desserts,” in honor of Rach, who after serving 15 years as head of the NYU Tisch Center is stepping down to rejoin the full-time faculty. Friendly roasts by industry leaders and colleagues from the hospitality, tourism, and sports industries, desserts and champagne, and industry networking are all on the program.

Renowned in the industry for her research and leadership at NYU, Rach is also credited with transforming higher education in the field. Under her guidance, the NYU Tisch Center became a leading academic and research center which now boasts 13 full-time faculty, some 600 students and 1,600 alumni. It offers Bachelor of Science degrees in both Hotel and Tourism Management and Sports Management as well as Master of Science degrees in Hospitality Industry Studies, Tourism Management, and Sports Business.

The “Lalia’s Just Desserts” event will happen the evening of Monday, June 7, at the Loews Regency Hotel on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.  Tickets are $250 each, with all proceeds going to New York University to support students and academic program initiatives of the Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management.
