NEW YORK, August 4, 2011 - The Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management at the New York University School of Continuing and Professional Studies (NYU-SCPS) has relocated to its new permanent home, a custom-designed facility at 7 East 12th Street.
The 117,000-square-foot facility, which is also the home of other divisions of NYU-SCPS, is divided into classroom space equipped with the latest audiovisual and communications technologies, comfortable student lounges, conference rooms, and administrative and faculty offices. The dedicated administrative area for the Tisch Center is the most substantial in the building, occupying two contiguous floors. In addition to this space, Tisch Center classes, special events, industry gatherings, and alumni events will be held in the new building.
“We are looking forward to welcoming our 700 new and returning students to our new home, where Tisch Center students, faculty, and staff members can experience continued growth and an even more vibrant academic/industry/alumni/NYU-SCPS community experience,” said Bjorn Hanson, HVS chair and divisional dean of the Preston Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management. “The retrofitted facility at 7 East 12th Street fulfills the long-held aspirations of the Tisch Center for an identifiable and dedicated teaching, learning, and administrative environment that is part of the University’s main campus.”
In keeping with NYU’s Climate Action Plan—the University-wide effort to reduce its environmental footprint and save energy—the 7 East 12th Street building is energy efficient, guided by LEED Certification standards, and is constructed using environmentally friendly materials and smart systems, while maximizing natural light.
NYU-SCPS Dean Robert Lapiner, who championed the project and secured the University’s authorization for this transformational new institutional home for the School, praised the critical leadership role of the Tisch Center’s many supporters, as well as the achievements of its faculty, students, and alumni, in his ability to obtain the approval needed to move forward with the renovation. “The constant and generous advocacy of the friends of the Tisch Center since its inception and the University’s belief in the Center’s importance–as well as its continuous support of NYU-SCPS as a whole—were driving factors in making this ambitious project a reality.”
A community-wide celebration of the building’s opening and an announcement of many wonderfully generous gifts and additional naming opportunities throughout its administrative, event, and teaching spaces will occur this fall.
