NEW YORK, October 1, 2012 – Rosemary Anne Mathewson, J.D., L.L.M., has been appointed to a dual role, as divisional dean of the New York University School of Continuing and Professional Studies (NYU-SCPS) Division of Programs in Business, and as an associate vice president of University Enterprise Initiatives for New York University.

In her role as divisional dean, Mathewson will provide the vision, the leadership, and the creativity to help the already successful Division of Programs in Business achieve the next level of excellence. She also will take a lead role in expanding global presence, developing new sources of funding, cultivating external relations, and building corporate sector connectivity.

As associate vice president of University Enterprise Initiatives, Mathewson will work to develop new initiatives, opportunities, relationships, and educational engagement focusing on executives and corporations, as well as individuals including non-traditional students. Her role will support NYU’s institutional mission through global program portfolio growth, innovation, and strategic alliances that generate new educational activities and audiences drawing upon the resources of all schools to create widespread access, both here and abroad, to the rich array of educational resources across the University.

“We are very fortunate to have Rosemary Mathewson join the NYU-SCPS and the University team. She brings an in-depth understanding of global executive education and strategic educational initiatives to the School and to the University at large,” said Richard A. Matasar, J.D., NYU vice president for University Enterprise Initiatives. “Her knowledge, experience, and professional expertise will provide the basis for academic program development and for corporate relations that will afford an expansive range of multidimensional opportunities for our students here and around the world.”

Mathewson has extensive experience launching, developing, and directing global education initiatives, executive education, and professional continuing education programs across a diverse array of competitive global business environments and at universities–including NYU. From 1995 to 2005, she held progressively responsible positions in executive and professional education at New York University, including managing director of Strategic Initiatives and Relationships, associate dean for Executive Programs, and assistant dean of Executive Development Programs at the NYU Stern School of Business. She also served as academic director of the NYU-SCPS Department of Finance, Law, and Taxation. Among her many professional accomplishments is the development of degree and noncredit executive programs in the United States and around the world, including the TRIUM Global Executive M.B.A. program, an alliance among the NYU Stern School of Business, the HEC School of Management in Paris, and the London School of Economics and Political Science.

“Rosemary Mathewson is a leader in global and executive education. She joins NYU-SCPS at a time of change and great progress. Her guidance and leadership will prove invaluable as we strive to develop new programs for the School and venture into the global educational marketplace,” asserted Dennis Di Lorenzo, vice dean of NYU-SCPS.

Most recently, Mathewson served as senior vice president for Distributed and Global Education at The New School. In this role, she was charged with developing strategies to connect the university with educational partners beyond the New York campus through new and existing on-site, online, and blended learning platforms, focusing on Europe and Asia. From 2005-2011, she served as the managing director of Duke Corporate Education in London, a not-for-profit support corporation for Duke University, where she was responsible for global business development initiatives in Europe and Asia, and for developing and implementing customized executive education programs for global corporate clients in the United Kingdom, Europe, South America, India, East Asia, and New York.

Earlier in her career, Mathewson practiced law as a corporate tax transactions attorney and served as a financial services and banking professional in New York with firms including Columbia Capital Group, Goldman Sachs & Co., Donovan Leisure Newton & Irvine, and Clifford Chance. She holds a B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College, a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School, and an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law.

“I am very much looking forward to returning to New York University and to taking on this dual role,” said Ms. Mathewson. “Now, more than ever, is the time to develop initiatives that foster collaboration across NYU and around the world so that we are actively enabling learners at all levels, from executives to traditional students, to function on a global basis.”
