NEW YORK, January 31, 2012 –The NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate (scps.nyu.edu/schack) has opened registration for its Spring 2012 intensive courses in real estate and construction management. These intensive one-week programs deliver in-depth, concentrated learning experiences for professionals who seek to sharpen their expertise in a particular aspect of the real estate industry. Credit earned by completing intensive courses can often be applied toward the completion of a professional certificate program.
The one-week format gives professionals the opportunity to expand their knowledge without a significant time commitment and enables them to grow and ascend their career ladder.
This semester’s course highlights include:
- The Business of Real Estate: Finance and Investment (March 12-16, 2012)
This intensive, one-week program provides a solid foundation for understanding the high-stakes business of commercial real estate. Through exposure to actual cases, students develop an understanding of the issues involved in the creation of real estate assets and real estate value.
- Construction Methods, Materials, and Drawings (March 12-16, 2012)
The ability to accurately read construction drawings and plans, and to understand the construction practices associated with those drawings is an essential skill for construction managers. This one-week intensive begins with an examination of the materials, systems, and techniques used in commercial and high-rise residential building construction and concludes with a thorough examination of construction plans and working drawings.
- Real Estate Financial Modeling and Analysis (March 19-21, 2012)
Beginning with a review of the essential financial calculations and measurements used in quantitative real estate investment and income property analysis, participants progress to developing a financial model template for the acquisition and refinancing of commercial real estate using Excel software.
- Construction Project Management (March 19-23, 2012)
This intensive one-week program provides a solid foundation, focusing on the com¬plexities and techniques of effective construction project manage¬ment. By week’s end, students have a greater understanding of the industry and have acquired practical tools they can use immediately in their current positions.
- Real Estate Investment Decision Analysis (March 26-30, 2012)
Further your understanding of commercial real estate investment decision analysis with applications of acquisition, renovation, reposition, and disposition considerations. This intensive one-week program provides a framework of advanced financial economic principles and analytical techniques.
- Real Estate Investment Banking and Capital Markets (April 16-20, 2012)
Strengthen your knowledge of corporate finance and capital markets through an examination of how the public capital markets value commercial real estate investments and firms and assess risk. Acquire a comprehensive understanding of value creation during the life cycle of a real estate firm with a focus on the role investment banking plays in reallocating risk and enhancing value.
- Real Estate Asset Management (April 16-20), 2012)
Examine the techniques for increasing the value of real estate assets under management on behalf of ownership. This one-week intensive examines the decision-making process from the property, asset, and portfolio management perspectives.
- Commercial Real Estate Lease Analysis (April 30 – May 2, 2012)
This three-day intensive course provides a comprehensive understanding of commercial real estate leasing strategies for the landlord and tenant and analyzes how leasing decisions or characteristics impact lease value.
