NYU School of Professional Studies Media Talk Series to Feature Bestselling Authors Lauren Oliver, Jodi Picoult, Jeffrey Toobin, and Colson Whitehead On Creating Books in Today’s Publishing Landscape

February 15 Event Will Dive Deep Into the Ways in Which Authors Attract Audiences and Influence Opinions in the Digital Age

NEW YORK, January 30, 2017 – The NYU School of Professional Studies (NYUSPS) Center for Publishing will host the latest panel in its NYU Media Talk series, “Challenging Topics, Challenging Times: Four Bestselling Authors Reflect Upon Culture, Creativity, and Changing the Conversation,” on Wednesday, February 15, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Pamela Paul
, editor of The New York Times Book Review and author of three books including Parenting, Inc., will serve as the moderator of the panel. Featured panelists include:

  • Lauren Oliver, bestselling author of the young adult novels Replica, Vanishing Girls, Panic, and the Delirium trilogy, which has been translated into more than 30 languages.
  • Jodi Picoult, New York Times #1 bestselling author of two dozen national and international bestsellers including Small Great Things and My Sister’s Keeper. Five of her books have been made into television or feature films.
  • Jeffrey Toobin, author of six bestselling works of nonfiction including American Heiress: The Wild Saga of the Kidnapping, Crimes, and Trial of Patty Hearst and The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson. He is a staff writer for The New Yorker and a senior legal analyst for CNN.
  • Colson Whitehead, bestselling author of The Underground Railroad, winner of the 2016 National Book Award for fiction, and seven other works of fiction and nonfiction. He is the recipient of MacArthur and Guggenheim Fellowships.

They will discuss how they select and shape themes that resonate with readers and why they feel it is crucial to do so; how they connect with their audiences and influence opinion in this digital age; and how they work with their editors in today’s publishing landscape.

The NYU Media Talk panel will take place at the NYU Kimmel Center for University Life, 60 Washington Square South (between LaGuardia Place & Thompson Street).
