International Students

As an international student, you will be in good company at NYU. Each year, more than 4,500 international students from over 130 countries take courses through the University’s 18 schools and colleges. Last year, ALI welcomed more than 2,500 students from 70 countries. In today’s globally networked world, the connections that you make through your studies at NYU can last a lifetime, providing invaluable personal and professional contacts.

3. Apply for Your F-1 Visa
Accepted overseas applicants will receive a formal letter of admission and a Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20). You may then apply for a student (F-1) visa at a United States Consulate or other appropriate U.S. agency. Since requirements vary in different areas, applicants for student visas should check the U.S. office in their country for specific requirements.

4. English Language Evaluation at ALI
When your I-20 is issued, you will receive an appointment to take the ALI Placement Test approximately one week before classes begin. The ALI Placement Test includes personal advisement and registration assistance.

5. Register for Classes and Pay Tuition
After your test and interview, you will be assisted with in-person registration. Tuition payments can be made by cash, check, or credit card.

Special Services and Activities: An international student advisor is available to counsel students about visas, as well as academic and personal matters, and to acclimate students to life at NYU and in New York City.
