Leadership Summit on Global Philanthropy
What better way to discuss the international nature of fundraising than to bring together leaders in global philanthropy to discuss the major challenges of the industry? In 2011, the George H. Heyman, Jr. Center for Philanthropy and Fundraising did just that by playing host to the School’s first Leadership Summit on Global Philanthropy. The Summit highlighted changes in fundraising and philanthropy in the United States and abroad as a result of globalization and the impact of technology.
Participants from 40 global institutions attended the Summit. Among the highlights was keynote speaker Dame Stephanie Shirley, the United Kingdom’s founding Ambassador for Philanthropy, who spoke of "Giving Philanthropists a Voice Worldwide.”
Three days of sessions focused on the challenges in 21st century fundraising, including new trends in the American model of fundraising, social media in fundraising, the changing face of corporate and foundation global philanthropy, the pitfalls and challenges in securing funding for non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and international fundraising.
