For nearly two decades, Mary Sanders has worked in the higher education and nonprofit sectors. She has been employed at the NYU Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and is now the executive assistant to New York Academy of Medicine President Jo Ivey Boufford. In her current role, Sanders manages the executive office of one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious scientific foundations.
Sanders originally attended City University of New York’s John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and went to work fulltime, making it difficult to attend school. But she maintained the desire to finish her undergraduate studies. And so, this busy wife, mother, and working professional enrolled in the McGhee Division.
In 2003, she graduated with a B.A. in Social Sciences and a concentration in Sociology. In her spare time, Sanders volunteers for a variety of causes, such as helping survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. She also heads up a women’s support group and is a volunteer assistant director of a children’s group.
