Scott Gammon

B.S. in Digital Communications and Media
Alumnus, Class of 2010

Scott Gammon knew that he wanted to pursue a career in media, but he also was aware of the highly competitive nature of this ever-evolving industry. To be successful, he sought a degree program that would provide him with practical skills, giving him the edge over those who also were vying for jobs in the field. "Many schools offer digital communication degrees, however, I wanted a program of study that would put me ahead of the curve," he acknowledges. "NYU-SCPS had one of the few programs that could provide me with the level of expertise needed to really have an impact in my area of interest."

While in school, Gammon specialized in digital video and communication, and took advantage of the McGhee online program, which allows students to complete coursework at home, in the office, or virtually any place in the world. "The program allowed me to enroll in a top-tier educational institution, while providing me with the flexibility to gain experience in a working environment." he notes. Gammon was able to bolster his skills by completing a McGhee-arranged internship at NBC Sports Digital Video.

He found that the exposure to faculty members who are experts in their fields, and the dynamic exchange of ideas with his classmates online made for a truly unique type of learning experience. "Students came from all sorts of educational and professional backgrounds, which provided a broad range of perspective on the topics covered. It was very apparent to me that my professors were out there on the front line professionally. It’s one thing to read about fair use in a textbook, it’s another to have it explained to you by the former legal counsel for MySpace."
