BS in Healthcare Management

Overview

For students interested in beginning or advancing a career in healthcare, this  program equips you for employment in organizations such as ambulatory care facilities, residential healthcare settings, group practices, health maintenance companies, community health settings, government agencies, and hospitals. You will learn about the current legal and ethical standards in healthcare and study the factors affecting healthcare management, including government policies, human resource and material management, and capital investment.

Lead in a Growth Industry

Apply your knowledge of the healthcare industry, its policies and operations, to work to enhance the quality and delivery of healthcare and policy effectiveness.

Program Structure

Core Courses

Core courses provide an in-depth exploration of the liberal arts that expands your critical thinking and analytical skills, increases your knowledge, and develops your intellect.

Electives

Students select elective credits from DAUS course offerings in consultation with their advisor.

Concentrations

Students can choose concentrations in Community Health/Healthcare Advocacy and Long-Term Care.

Internships

Earn academic credit while gaining industry experience. Work with coaches at the Wasserman Center to learn how to land an internship that will let you put what you have learned in the classroom into action.

Capstone

Work in close consultation with a faculty advisor on a senior thesis or project in your field of study.

Concentrations

Students select one of the following concentrations:

Community Health/Healthcare Advocacy

Understand barriers to health care access and acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies to overcome these barriers.

Long-Term Care

Gain exposure to the changing landscape of long term care and the needs of a growing aging population.

Core Requirements

The degree is a 128 credit program consisting of a required set of core courses (32 credits), liberal arts electives (16 credits), major courses (56 credits), concentration courses (20 credits), and a graduation project (4 credits)

Writing

The following courses may be required based on a writing placement assessment, and should be successfully completed within the first three semesters.

Critical Thinking

Students are required to take the following course.

Quantitative Reasoning

Students, in close consultation with their advisor, select Math 1 and Math II or one of the following other courses based on a math placement assessment.

Scientific Issues

Students select one of the following courses in consultation with their advisor.

Historical Perspectives

Students select one of the following courses in consultation with their advisor.

Literary and Artistic Expressions

Students select one of the following courses in consultation with their advisor.

Liberal Arts Electives

In addition to the core curriculum requirements, bachelor of science degree students select an additional 16 credits of liberal arts courses from the core curriculum in consultation with their advisor.
