Concentrations and Electives

Consulting with faculty and advisors throughout the freshman and sophomore years helps students refine their interests and goals. As juniors, students choose a 15-credit industry concentration. Specialized study in the subfield of sports management develops skills and knowledge with immediate application to the field of interest.

Students select one area of focus from the following concentrations for the B.S. in Sports Management.

  • Event Management
Learn to manage all aspects of planning and promoting sporting events, from major league games to the Olympic Games, as they continue to grow in size, frequency, economic importance, and global scope.
  • Organizational Management
Preparation for management positions with professional and collegiate sports teams and leagues and sports venues and events, this concentration provides a thorough understanding of the organizational and operational structures within the sports and entertainment industries, whether professional or nonprofit, and how to successfully navigate them.
  • Sports Law
Acquire both theoretical and operational knowledge of legal concepts and skills essential to the sports business, including contractual relations; unionization and collective bargaining; antitrust law; issues of ownership and license; and rights of publicity, image, and copyright.
  • Sports Media
Address the emerging and complex effects of global sports organizations' integration with, and reliance, on new technologies and models of delivery. Through this concentration, you gain an in-depth understanding of sports media strategies that drive the modern sports business and create new opportunities for licensing and merchandising in the industry.
