What documents are required to apply to a master’s degree?
The application components are a completed application with check or money order for $75; official transcripts for all colleges or universities attended; standardized test scores; your personal statement; two letters of recommendation; and a current resume. The M.S. in Digital Imaging also requires a portfolio.

Is work experience required to apply?
Work experience is preferred for most programs and is required for the M.S. degrees and graduate certificates in Construction Management and Real Estate .

How many credits does it take to complete a master’s degree?

All master’s degrees are 42 credits

How many credits is a graduate certificate?

Graduate certificates range from 15-18 credits.

How long will it take to process my application and when will I receive a response?

If you apply during the fall and spring of the current academic year, the Admissions Committee will review your application within two weeks of receipt of a complete application. If you apply at or around the priority deadline, it may take as long as six weeks for your application to be reviewed.

Can I apply before I complete my undergraduate degree?

You may apply during your last term of study.

What is the application process for an international student?

International students are required to submit a completed application, with check or money order for $75; official transcripts for all colleges or universities attended, including a translation and evaluation of your documents; standardized test scores, including TOEFL; your personal statement; two letters of recommendation; and a current resume. The M.S. in Digital Imaging also requires a portfolio. After you are admitted you will receive instructions on how to apply for an I-20.

Do I have to take a Standardized Test?
All applicants who have completed their undergraduate degree in the past two years must submit a standardized graduate test score (GRE or GMAT). The Admissions Committee reserves the right to request a standardized test score from all applicants.

Does NYU offer graduate preparation courses?

The SCPS Office of Career Services offers GRE, GMAT, and LSAT preparation courses.

Where can I get my international transcripts evaluated?

All transcripts must be evaluated by World Education Services, www.wes.org, or another recognized international evaluation service recommended by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, www.naces.org.  When requesting a translation or evaluation please request a course-by-course evaluation

Will I need to take an English language proficiency test if I submitted a TOEFL?

New York University requires non-native English speaking students who are offered admission to take an English language proficiency test at the NYU's American Language Institute to measure the student’s English language ability and assess his/her writing skills. 

How do I learn about the visa process?
After you are offered admission you will receive instructions that require you to contact NYU’s Office of International Student’s and Scholars, where you will apply for your I-20 online.

Where do I send my test scores?
All test scores should be sent to the SCPS Office of Admissions at 145 Fourth Avenue, room 219, NY, NY 10003. Please use school code 2557 for any tests offered by Educational Testing Services.

Do you have online programs?

The M.S. and corresponding Graduate Certificates in Management and Systems, and in Information Technology are offered fully online. The M.S. in Human Resource Management and Development and its corresponding graduate certificates offer some courses online.

What is the difference between a graduate certificate and a master’s program?

A graduate certificate is a group of master’s level courses that offers the opportunity for a student to gain skills in a specific area without committing to a full master’s degree.

Is university housing available for graduate students?

University housing is very limited and only available to full-time master’s students, which requires that you enroll for 12 credits each semester. NYU also has an Off-Campus Housing Office that you may gain access to after you are admitted to the university where you can get assistance finding housing in the New York City area.
