Graduate Admissions

APPLICATION CRITERIA AND COMPONENTS

All master’s degrees and graduate certificates offered by the School of Continuing and Professional Studies are accredited by the New York State Board of Education. Master’s degrees are 42 credits, and most students complete their degree in approximately 5 terms of study. Some master's programs also offer a graduate certificate option. These advanced certificates range from 15-18 credits. Graduate certificates are ideal for candidates who are not ready to complete a full master's degree. Graduate certificate courses are master’s level and comprise part of the corresponding master’s program. Many students who complete a graduate certificate choose to then apply to the corresponding master’s degree.

MASTER'S DEGREE APPLICATION CRITERIA

The Admissions Committee reviews all elements of the application as part of the review process, so it is important that you take the time and consideration required to complete all the components of the application. We request that applicants submit original sealed transcripts from all colleges or universities attended, so that we may review academic trends during your studies. We require two letters of recommendation to understand the level of your skills and ability to succeed in pursuing a master’s degree. The recommendations may be two professional letters, one academic and one professional, or two academic recommendations. Please do not use personal or family friends for recommendations. We suggest that you contact your recommender early in the process and discuss the program to which you are applying and your long-term goals, so the recommender may provide a proper assessment. The personal statement is reviewed to determine your suitability for the program and is also used as a writing sample. A current résumé is also required so we may review your work history and related experience. Applicants with industry or related experience are given preference in the admissions review process.

All applicants who have completed their undergraduate degree in the past two years must submit a standardized graduate test score: GRE or GMAT. The Admissions Committee reserves the right to request a standardized test score from all applicants.

    This is a nonrefundable processing fee.
  • Official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended
  • Standardized test scores
  • Two letters of recommendation

  • Portfolio (M.S. in Digital Imaging only)

GRADUATE CERTIFICATE APPLICATION CRITERIA

GRADUATE CERTIFICATE STUDENTS APPLYING TO M.S. DEGREE PROGRAMS

Many applicants choose to apply first to a graduate certificate program and later apply to the corresponding master’s degree. After you have completed 2–3* courses in the graduate certificate, you may apply to the master’s program. All applicants are required to submit a new application and two letters of recommendation to the SCPS Office of Admissions to be considered.

*If you are in the Graduate Certificate programs you must complete all six courses before you can apply to the M.S. in Real Estate or M.S. in Construction Management.
