NYU-SCPS Graduate Student Life: Professional Growth and Intellectual Stimulation

NYU-SCPS Student Life

  • Enriches your NYU-SCPS experience through stimulating activities, networking events, and service opportunities
  • Integrates you into your professional field of choice, and introduces you to other students in your area of study
  • Fosters a broader sense of community among students, faculty members and alumni

As an NYU-SCPS graduate student, your overall experience will extend far beyond classroom learning. Student life is infused with a wealth of extracurricula and professionally oriented activities that offer the chance to meet and to mingle with faculty members, peers, alumni and guest lecturers in your area of study, as well as with those from other academic areas.

You can develop your leadership abilities through participation in student clubs and the NYU-SCPS student government. In addition, you can expand your professional affiliations through alumni mentorship and industry-specific networking opportunities. Attending School and University sponsored cultural and public affairs events will help to broaden your perspective, and will provide a forum for creativity and the exchange of ideas.

Our students lead busy lives, often juggling study, family responsibilities, and full- or part-time careers. We are here to ensure that they make the most of their time at NYU-SCPS, and therefore, work diligently to schedule activities at times that encourage the greatest amount of participation.

  • As a member of the NYU-SCPS community, you will benefit from learning opportunities in and outside the classroom. Our events are designed to connect you with successful professionals in your field and to facilitate the exchange of ideas, and increase your understanding of industry trends, challenges and opportunities.
  • As a part of the NYU student community, all of the resources, services, and opportunities of a world-class research university are available to you.

Alumni Panels and Networking Events

NYU-SCPS alumni hold positions in a wide range of fields, in the New York City metropolitan area, across the U.S., and around the globe. In addition to the career resources available through your program, the NYU-SCPS Office of Student Life and Alumni Relations hosts alumni panels and networking events that provide students with the opportunity to meet and to network with alumni from a variety of industry sectors.

The School's Student-Alumni Connection Series encourages students to build relationships with alumni who can help to expand their professional network and share knowledge about their own career paths. One recent event titled, “The Current Real Estate Market: How Deals are Getting Done Today,” brought together current students and alumni of the NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate, to network and to discuss the changing real estate market. Whether you are a natural at networking or you are new to it, our student and alumni leaders will help to introduce you to others attending these events.

At NYU-SCPS, student clubs reflect the professional passions and the creative pursuits of the members of our student body, and form the foundation of our student community. Clubs often invite guest lecturers in to share their knowledge on industry-related topics. Recent guests have included a senior editor at Newsweek, top PR professionals, and a senior fellow from the Council on Foreign Relations. Clubs enhance your academic and social experience, foster life-long relationships, provide networking opportunities, and build a strong school community.

Graduate clubs also collaborate with other student groups across NYU-SCPS to offer additional opportunities for professional development, community service, and relationship building with successful alumni.

The Student Council, with support from the NYU-SCPS Office of Student Life, works to enhance student life at NYU-SCPS. In addition, the Student Council oversees club activities and their funding.

The Student Council hosts social events and industry specificas well as cross-disciplinarycommunity engagement opportunities, such as:

  • Coffee hours, which are held prior to evening classes and often feature global cuisine and discussions sponsored by the international students club.
  • Free and discounted New York City entertainment and cultural events, which include everything from ice skating at Rockefeller Center, to museum tours, Broadway shows, and semi-formals at the City’s hottest venues.

New York is a global hub for many of the world’s most exciting industries, and NYU-SCPS and its students and alumni have ample opportunities to engage with top industry leaders (many of whom are NYU-SCPS graduates) at events held throughout the year. A few examples include:
