Admissions Criteria
The NYU-SCPS Office of Admissions carefully weighs each component of your application during the admissions review process. We use this approach to evaluate your ability to benefit from and to contribute to the dynamic learning environment and the challenging curriculum our program offers.

The following components are required for a complete application:
Download the application and submit it electronically or by mail.
A statement that explains why you wish to enroll in this program.
A copy of your most recent résumé or curriculum vitae.
A $35 nonrefundable application fee; please make check or money order payable to New York University.
We require an official transcript from each college or university that you have attended. The Office of Admissions can review your application if you provide unofficial copies of your transcripts. However, if you are admitted, you must submit all official documents within your first semester of study. A transcript is considered “official” only when received by the Office of Admissions in a sealed envelope.
If you have not completed the requisite 60 credits of undergraduate study but have significant legal work experience, you may still apply by submitting:
- Two letters of recommendation from your attorney-employers that provide evidence of your qualifications and your work experience
- A transcript of at least 18 semester credits or the equivalent of general education college-level course work in at least three disciplines, such as social sciences, natural sciences, mathematics, humanities, foreign languages, and/or English
- A high school transcript
International Students
International students greatly enrich our community and are encouraged to apply. Additional admission criteria for international students include:
Evaluation of Foreign Education Credentials. If requested by the Office of Admissions, each foreign transcript must also be evaluated for equivalency to the U.S. educational system for admission and transfer credit purposes. Evaluations are acceptable only from evaluation services recognized by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services. Please request a course-by-course evaluation.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Scores. TOEFL scores are required for applicants who did not complete an undergraduate degree in the United States or in a country where the only primary language is English.
- Minimum scores: 100 on the Internet-based test, 250 on the computer-based test, or 600 on paper-based test.
- Applicants who fall below these minimums may be selected to undergo additional review of their English language skills through the NYU-SCPS American Language Institute (ALI).
