CERTIFICATE IN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW
The importance of brand names in today's commercial and social worlds, and the advent of digital media and the Internet, have created an enormous demand for managers and professionals familiar with current intellectual property issues. This certificate provides a comprehensive study, beginning with the nature and scope of intellectual property rights, and gives students tools for valuing and managing such rights.
Upon completion of this program, students have:
- An understanding of the legal elements of intellectual property, such as trademarks, patents, copyrights, and trade secrets.
- Mechanisms for protecting intellectual property, including procedures for filing patent and copyright applications.
- An ability to analyze copyright law pertaining to a variety of areas.
- Knowledge of the application of key concepts of trademark law in real-world situations.
- An understanding of the impact of the Internet on intellectual property, internationalization of commerce on trademark law, and other intellectual property issues.
This certificate is awarded to students who successfully complete six courses--four required and two electives.
