CERTIFICATE IN U.S. LAW AND METHODOLOGIES
This certificate is designed to provide an introduction to the U.S. legal system and its methodologies in an intensive format that can be completed in just two semesters. Designed specifically for nonlawyers and foreign attorneys, the curriculum is excellent preparation for those thinking about law school or any individual interested in U.S. law.
Upon completion of the program, students have thoroughly covered:
- The fundamental concepts of U.S. law, legal systems, and methodologies, including basic principles of stare decisis and precedent.
- The structure of legal education in the U.S., the basic source of law, and principles of legal writing.
- Torts, contracts, corporations, and securities regulation, and basic elements of corporate law and contract law.
- Basic constitutional law, administrative procedure, and criminal law and procedure.
This certificate is awarded to students who successfully complete five courses--three required and two electives.
