ASSESSING LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY
Many other universities in the United States refer their undergraduate and graduate students to
the American Language Institute for initial testing of English proficiency and for study. Students
accepted by other universities may wish to study English full time at the American Language
Institute before beginning their academic programs. In this case, they can apply for the I-20 form
for English study only. To find out more, contact
NYU’s Office for International
Students and Scholars.
At a student’s written request, an English Language Report (the American Language Institute’s
official statement of an individual’s English proficiency) will be sent to a school, organization,
or sponsoring agency.
