CERTIFICATE IN ARTS ADMINISTRATION

This certificate equips students with the marketing, managerial, fundraising, and financial skills required to succeed in the exciting and increasingly competitive world of arts organizations and institutions.

Upon completion of the program, students have attained the following:

  • Experience creating strategic plans, budgets, and other financial documents.
  • Fundraising skills for arts organizations, both for-profit and nonprofit.
  • Insight and resources to market diverse projects and organizations in the arts.
  • Management skills in areas related to museums, galleries, alternative spaces, and performing arts groups and organizations.

This certificate is awarded to students who successfully complete five required courses and two 10-session electives (or the equivalent in five-session electives). Electives may include topics such as wealth management in the art market, fine art as a financial asset, starting a successful art business, and research methods for appraisers. Additional electives are offered in the summer and fall semesters. Students intending to pursue the certificate should call (212) 998-7200 to work out a plan of study and to receive recommendations on course order, mentoring, and internships.
