CERTIFICATE IN NURSING HOME ADMINISTRATION

During the next two decades, the over-65 population in the United States is expected to increase dramatically, presenting new challenges--and opportunities--for healthcare providers.

Designed for professionals interested in improving the long-term care system, the five-course, fully online certificate in Nursing Home Administration provides nurses, healthcare managers, nursing home and residential care administrators, and career changers with the educational preparation required to take the licensure examination for nursing home administrator (NHA) in New York State.

Upon completion of the program, students are able to:

  • Understand regulatory codes, ethical codes of conduct, and marketing strategies that apply to nursing home management
  • Identify quality standards of care set by The Joint Commission (TJC) and federal and state agencies
  • Implement regulations related to human resource management, governance, negligence, and patient rights in the nursing home environment
  • Evaluate the impact of age-related changes in the planning and implementation of quality care and resources

Course content is delivered online in an interactive format that includes online forums, blogs, and chats, which provide students with the opportunity to network with nursing home administration professionals from New York State, as well as those located across the country and around the globe. Real-time, online meetings with advisors, instructors, and fellow students turn your computer into a classroom community.

Applicants for the certificate program must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. International candidates who hold a degree equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree also are eligible to apply. Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate knowledge of certain subject areas, either through work experience or formal college-level coursework. Applicants are required to provide college transcripts or arrange for an interview with the program coordinator (please contact Carmelita Blake at cb2@nyu.edu or (212) 992-8724) to demonstrate prerequisite knowledge of organizational behavior, healthcare management, and principles of accounting
