CURRICULUM
The M.S. in Digital Imaging and Design program merges the artistic and technical aspects of
production as they apply to a wide range of professions in digital media, including commercials,
broadcast, and film. Students are introduced to the techniques of digital production and receive
the opportunity to specialize in their field of choice, such as character animation, broadcast
design, motion graphics for commercials and television, film composition, technical direction, and
digital effects. These professions serve a growing market in the visual communication and
entertainment industries. All courses are taught by industry professionals who emphasize the unique
artistic goals of their discipline. Students are involved in the creative process and the
management of digital content production starting the first day of their class.
CORE COURSES
A number of required core courses provide you with the fundamental knowledge and skills that
are essential for success. By studying the fundamentals of digital imaging, you develop a common
visual language and aesthetic sensibility that serves as a foundation on which to build your
experiences in your chosen area of concentration.
PROFESSIONAL ELECTIVES
Together with their academic advisor, students choose professional electives in their
particular area of interest. As the production skills grow, students pursue projects and advanced
assignments. All courses are hands-on studio courses. In the concentrations of 2D and 3D
Production, the curriculum offers a balanced mix of advanced techniques and the design principles
of real world professional applications.
THESIS PREVISUALIZATION
In your first thesis semester, you plan and produce on paper what ultimately becomes your
thesis project on the screen. In this course, taken one semester before the final thesis, you
execute the pre-production process of your thesis concept.
THESIS PROJECT
In your final thesis semester, you work on producing the project you designed in the thesis
previsualization course. The thesis project results in a work of digital image creation,
accompanied by research documentation describing the goals of the project.
