Professional electives allow you to craft the program to your individual needs and interests. You focus on an area of study in 2D or in 3D production in order to master a specific toolset and develop an advanced methodology applicable to a variety of professions in each area. The professional electives allow you to individualize your studies while paying attention to related disciplines. Whether you become an animator, a motion graphics artist, or evolve into a production manager, the interdisciplinary nature of the professions requires a broad understanding of the interrelations of all disciplines involved before specializing in your area of expertise.
This area of study serves animators, technical directors, and digital effect artists who want to work in animation, video game design, 3D effects for film, and commercial production. You advance in the use of 3D software in courses such as MAYA Visual Effects I and II, 3D Modeling for Digital Applications, and further progress into your specialty. Scripting for Visual Effects introduces students to workflow optimization through the use of scripts and is beneficial to all professions in 3D production.
This area of study serves the creative professions in the Motion Graphics and Broadcast Design market, as well as film compositing. TV stations, film productions and commercial houses utilize 2D applications for the compositing of complex scenes and the addition of intriguing visual effects and graphics to life action images. The underlying concepts and common tools of production are taught in studio courses like Aftereffects Compositing, Advanced After Effects, or Digital Post Production I and II.
Motion Graphics artists develop branding concepts and designs for broadcast and commercials. The borders between traditional types of media and new media—such as the internet, interactive applications, or portable devices—are vanishing. Designers utilize common tool sets in order to explore new areas of visual communication. Students explore the advanced artistic concepts of digital content creation in Broadcast Design I and II, and Title Design.
Digital Visual Effects make the impossible possible by adding digitally composed effects to live action footage. Shake VFX Compositing, Advanced Techniques in Digital Postproduction and Technical Directing focus on the breakdown of these complex effects. Learn how live action components can be combined and how to incorporate 2D effects, as well as 3D computer graphics, to enhance the visual experience.
