CERTIFICATE IN ANIMATION
Experiment with your artistic talents and explore the world of animation. This program, emphasizing character animation, provides students with the opportunity to explore the skills utilized within a variety of fields, including film, TV, commercials, and entertainment media. Acquire the specific tools and experience essential to create lively animated charaters and apply them to an individual animated short project.
Upon completion of the program, students have attained the following:
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of animation.
- Traditional and computer animation skills.
- Ability to create 3D models in Maya software.
- Ability to tell a story visually or create visuals out of text or verbal concepts.
- Understanding of the various industries that use animation.
- Professional development and the logistics required for employment in the industry.
- An individual animated short project.
Prerequisite: It is recommended that students have fundamental skills in drawing and design. Students with no previous experience in those areas are advised to take 2D Design Principles/X36.9220 and Conceptualization/X36.9221.
To earn the certificate, an average grade of B or higher is required indicating successful completion of six required courses.
This certificate has been restructured. Students who began this certificate prior to fall 2007 have four years to complete their certificate according to the requirements in the SCPS bulletin the semester they began. Call (212) 998-7171 for more information.
