MESSAGE FROM THE ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR

Dear Colleague,

Over the past 35 years, nearly 4,000 students have crossed the thresholds of our classrooms and emerged into dynamic new careers as paralegals. From its infancy in the early 1970’s, the profession has expanded into a field rich with meaningful opportunities and enhanced job satisfaction. Although this is especially true in the vibrant legal community of New York City, where our graduates find unique recognition and encouragement to develop professionally, the boundary of welcome has also extended to national and international law firms and corporations.

According to the Bureau of Statistics at the Department of Labor, employment for paralegals and legal assistants is projected to grow much faster than average for all occupations through 2014. This reflects the ongoing call for improving the efficiency and cost-effective delivery of legal services, which underscores the value that a knowledgeable paralegal brings to the legal team. Those with an understanding of the law and a practical knowledge of forms and procedures will find themselves to be in continuous demand. At New York University, we are fortunate to enjoy the dedication of a talented faculty of practicing attorneys from the metropolitan area, who bring a specialized background to every topic that they teach. They have first hand knowledge of the most relevant skills and information that will distinguish their students in the workplace and allow them to take the best advantage of the wealth of opportunities that lie ahead.

We hope that you are inspired by these opportunities and that you choose to become part of the legacy of our graduates everywhere.

Sincerely,

Julie Sisti
