CERTIFICATE IN FILMMAKING

Begin building your professional reel with either the daytime intensive version of this certificate or its part-time evening format. This certificate provides filmmakers with hands-on experience with both on-location and interior shoots and in post-production editing labs. Acquire technical knowledge and experiment creatively under the guidance of a faculty of industry professionals who guide you from first shoot to final edit as you make your own film.

Upon completion of the program, students have attained skills in:

  • Sound.
  • Editing.
  • Lighting.
  • Producing.

This certificate is awarded to students who successfully complete the required material by taking Option 1, 2, or 3. Option 3 includes one elective.

    Filmmaking Eight-Week Intensive: Color--Sync Sound

    Designed for students with some film production experience, this eight-week advanced intensive course provides a solid next step for honing your skills. Learn the fundamentals of creating professional-quality narrative films in lectures and demonstrations that cover dialogue, advanced lighting techniques, cinematography, sync-sound production, sound mixing, and post-production. Gain hands-on experience in pre-production, production, and post-production. Using a script that you develop during the first four weeks, and working with a production crew of fellow students, complete a short film, shot in color and synchronized sound, that you are encouraged to submit to festivals or competitions.

    Students can enroll in four, eight, or the full 12 weeks of this program, which offers the best value and the most complete preparation for a career in film.

    Filmmaking 12-Week Intensive: B/W-MOS and Color-Sync Sound

    Over twelve weeks, you’ll have the opportunity to create your own film: color negative, synch sound, and about eight to ten minutes long. Students begin by learning the basics of 16mm filmmaking as award winning faculty instruct on 16mm Arriflex cameras, lighting for film, audio recording, and non-linear editing with Final Cut Pro. Lectures and demonstrations cover important filmmaking skills such as cinematography and sync-sound production. Working with a production crew of fellow students, you initially complete a series of short exercises using black-and-white film, then evolve to work on your own final color sync-sound short film.

    Students can enroll in four, eight, or the full 12 weeks of this program, which offers the best value and the most complete preparation for a career in film.
