CERTIFICATE IN NIELSEN AUDIENCE MEASUREMENT

In this specialized certificate program, you learn the structure of the TV industry and the research methodologies used to gather and report Nielsen ratings, as well as other media research techniques. The certificate includes both classroom work and internship experience at broadcast and cable television networks. Recent students who have completed this certificate were placed in positions at ABC, CBS, and the WB; Viacom's channel LOGO; and Nielsen Media Research.

Upon completion of this certificate program, students have knowledge of:

  • The technical language of TV advertising sales, buying, planning, and research.
  • The recurrent viewing patterns of the TV audience.
  • The fundamental principles of social survey research.
  • The methodology used by Nielsen Media Research to produce national and local ratings.
  • The primary data and software products of Nielsen Media Research.
  • The elements of effective research charting and presentations.
To earn the certificate, an average grade of B or higher is required indicating successful completion of the intensive requirements.

Nielsen Audience Measurement

Earn a Nielsen Certificate in TV Audience Measurement with this intensive program. Gain a thorough introduction to how television audience ratings are collected, analyzed and used. Students work directly with data produced by Nielsen Media Research. Leading industry representatives are regularly invited to share their experience and points of view. The intensive includes an internship component (minimum of 100 hours) and complements the lectures and in class work. Internship experiences are included in class discussions.
