CERTIFICATES IN PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT

NYU-SCPS offers three professional certificates in portfolio management to meet the needs of students who are new to the field, as well as professionals who wish to advance their expertise in a particular area of specialization.

The Certificate in Portfolio Management is a foundation-focused program emphasizing core skills and competencies, which can be completed in nine months. Two Advanced Certificates in Portfolio Management build on the core certificate with specializations in either Equity or Real Estate, or Fixed Income.

Upon completion of each program, students gain a broad understanding of securities and investment management topics, including:

  • The operation of equity, fixed income, and derivatives markets.
  • Securities analysis, including equity and bond valuation.
  • Risk/reward tradeoffs and statistical tools for measurement of risk and return.
  • Portfolio asset allocation and performance analysis.
  • Technical analysis techniques, investments in securities markets outside the U.S., and other areas, as selected by the individual student.

The Certificate in Portfolio Management is awarded to students who have successfully completed the five core courses. The Advanced Certificates in Portfolio Management require completion of the five core courses, as well as two electives in the area of specialization.

NOTE: Students who began working toward the Portfolio Management Certificate without specializations may complete their course of study in accordance with the requirements that were in effect at the time they commenced their studies with the University.
