Essential Skills for Translators Event Spring 2010

Translators and interpreters need more than superb language skills to succeed in today’s market. This panel of translation and interpretation industry experts speaks about the knowledge and expertise that clients and companies are looking for, how to acquire it, and how to make yourself stand out in the field. There will be ample time for questions and discussion. This event is free and open to the public.

This event hosted by the NYU-SCPS Foreign Languages, Translation, and Interpreting department featured a panel of translation industry experts on April 18, 2009.


The presenters:

  • Jon Ritzdorf  - a translating specialist and expert in computer-assisted translation, terminology management, and localization. An adjunct instructor at NYU-SCPS, Ritzdorf has a BA in Chinese Language and Literature from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and an MA in Chinese Translation from the Monterey Institute of International Studies.
     
  • Christine Muller - vice president of operations and quality assurance at LanguageWorks. She has more than 15 years in the field, including experience with such entities as translations.com, and the UN Centre for Regional Development. Muller has B.A. in Spanish and Literature from St. Lawrence University and an M.A. in Latin American Studies from the University of Chicago.
     
  • Liza Tripp - a freelance translator specializing in legal and financial documents from French, Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese into English.  She earned a Certificate in French to English Translation from NYU-SCPS and has a B.S. in French Translation from Barnard College.
