CAREER DEVELOPMENT

PROSPECTS FOR GRADUATES

Our students go on to assume leadership positions in government agencies, nongovernmental and community-based organizations, regional and international organizations, multinational corporations, the media, and scores of allied institutions. Some provide emergency relief, monitor human rights, and help refugees fleeing conflict in their own countries. Others are engaged in research, advocacy, policy formation, and nation building.

Those who choose to dedicate their careers to global affairs take on some of the most challenging issues: reducing illiteracy and poverty, assisting displaced persons, establishing an equitable global trading system, and combating HIV/AIDS are just a few critical problems facing the world today.

Through NYU’s career network, the Center for Global Affairs (CGA) offers a variety of programs and services to help you take charge of your future.

NYU CAREER LISTSERVS
The Center for Global Affairs and NYU Wasserman Center announce information on jobs via listservs. You must sign up to have access to these career-related announcements. Send a blank e-mail from an NYU email account (@nyu.edu) to join the following listservs for regular announcements on jobs, workshops, internships, and more:

CGA LUNCHTIME CAREER WORKSHOPS
This unique series – exclusively for graduate students – offer you an informal setting for networking, learning about possible internship opportunities, and gaining practical career advice. Sessions provide you with exposure to governmental organizations, non-governmental organizations, intergovernmental organizations, research and education organizations, the media, foundations and the private sector.

CGA EVENING INTERNATIONAL CAREER SERIES
The Center for Global Affairs evening “International Career Series” brings together international professionals for three moderated panel sessions in both the Fall and Spring semesters. Each session focuses on a different sector and features speakers who highlight their career trajectory and offer advice. This series is free and open to graduates as well as the public and provides ample opportunity for networking.

CGA PUBLIC EVENTS
Our public events series examines critical global issues through a variety of lenses, such as film, journalism, art, economics, history, politics, law and international relations. These events are designed as a collaborative enterprise, drawing on the talents of NYU’s 15 schools and colleges, the greater New York community, and leaders from around the world. You have the opportunity to meet these speakers and greet audiences by serving as "Student Ambassadors". Additionally, most public events include a reception so you can network with speakers and guests.

CGA FIRST FRIDAY LUNCHEON SERIES
The “First Friday” series was first conceived in partnership with the Global Affairs Graduate Society (GAGS). MS in Global Affairs faculty lead conversations with global leaders exclusively for the graduate community every first Friday of the month from October to December and February through April. This series provides a popular forum for you to engage on an intimate level in discussion with prominent individuals in the field, your faculty and your peers.

SCPS OFFICE OF CAREER MANAGEMENT
The SCPS Office of Career Management offers workshops and career-related resources that allow degree students to supplement the comprehensive services offered by NYU’s Wasserman Center for Career Development. The SCPS Office of Career Management provides individual counseling to students on a limited basis in both our Midtown location and at 15 Barclay Street.

Through workshops and one-on-one counseling, career management professionals help students formulate a job search plan, develop an effective résumé and cover letter, and sharpen their interviewing and negotiation skills. SCPS students also have access to OCM’s comprehensive career-related resources, located at 15 Barclay Street. Visit the Office of Career Management's information page for office operating hours.
