Civil society initiatives are leading the way toward innovative strategies in the development arena. South America - Buenos Aires in particular - provides vibrant examples of how bottom-up strategies can enable communities to improve their own development whether it be in the political, social, or economic arena.

The course examines the initiatives taken by civil society and government to tackle issues such as economic empowerment, anti-corruption, workers rights, and community development. Students meet with a variety of organizations through site visits and briefings. Organized lectures provide students with the contextual knowledge needed for analysis.
