Civil society initiatives are leading the way toward innovative strategies in the development arena. South America - Buenos Aires in particular - provides vibrant examples of how bottom-up strategies can enable communities to improve their own development whether it be in the political, social, or economic arena.
The course examines the initiatives taken by civil society and government to tackle issues such as economic empowerment, anti-corruption, workers rights, and community development. Students meet with a variety of organizations through site visits and briefings. Organized lectures provide students with the contextual knowledge needed for analysis.
Applications are available September 26th with a priority deadline on October 28, 2011. Check back for program updates. Applications primarily consist of a personal statement.
Site: Meetings are held on-site at organizations and the NYU Buenos Aires Center.

Hotel
Students will be staying at the Dazzler Hotel Laprida. The hotel is in walking distance of the NYU-BA Center in the neighborhood of Recoleta. Students will be staying in Classic singles. Check-in will be for March 10th, and check-out March 18th. Wifi and breakfast is included.
