Increase your understanding of global affairs and explore international career paths by learning from experts in politics, economics, law, international relations, and more. This program covers the political, economic, social, and cultural issues that shape relations throughout the world. Through private briefings and site visits, you gain insight into the work of the United Nations, specialized international agencies, private sector firms, and nongovernmental organizations. You also participate in a global crisis decision-making exercise involving interactive negotiation and crisis resolution.

Upon successful completion, students receive the Certificate in Global Affairs, a renowned credential usually requiring six semester-long courses.

Each student will take three required courses:

• International Relations in the Post World War II Era
• Politics of International Economic Relations
• International Negotiations

Students will also choose three electives.  Required courses and electives will meet twice a week for an hour and 40 minutes. Student schedules will vary based on the electives chosen. Please see the course blocking to see when the courses will run throughout the Institute.

AREAS COVERED

• Political developments and alignments since the end of World War II, with special emphasis on the post-Cold War.
• Factors, such as trade policies, role of multinationals, economic strategies of developing countries, and economic integrations, that shape today’s economy and influence international relations.
• International and nongovernmental organizations, international law, and new and evolving procedures for dealing with international disputes and intrastate civil wars.
