INTERNSHIPS AND WORK EXPERIENCE

We believe that internships form an essential part of your academic experience during graduate school. Internships allow you to explore the broad set of career options for global affairs graduates in the private, NGO, academic and public sectors and serve as a testing ground as you tailor your academic coursework toward your larger career goals.

While not a requirement for the degree, a majority of fulltime students, as well as many part-time students, choose to take advantage of the wealth of international organizations in New York City during the school year. While school is not in session, you may also work with organizations elsewhere in the U.S. and overseas.

Here are just some of the services we provide to support you in your selection of appropriate internships:

Internship Advisement: A member of our fulltime faculty works closely with the Global Affairs Graduate Society (GAGS) to compile a list of internship placements every year and is available to advise you on internships in a specific field of interest.

Internship Resource Directory: The internship directory is a valuable resource and is designed to help you initiate your internship search by providing useful information about potential opportunities at over 90 organizations. The internship directory is updated annually by the faculty internship advisor in conjunction with the Internships and Career Committee of the Global Affairs Graduate Society (GAGS).

Career Events: Our robust career event series provides opportunities to gain exposure to speakers from a wide range of international organizations. Our career series also provides the perfect venue for networking with speakers and other professionals about internship opportunities.

CGA Career Listserv: You will receive up-to-date internship postings through our CGA Career Listserv. Listings include general announcements as well as special requests for applications specifically from our graduate student body. You are automatically added to the listserv once you enroll in our graduate program.
