M.S. in Global Affairs

STUDENT AFFAIRS

A COMMUNITY OF SCHOLARS AND PROFESSIONALS
As part of a lively community of student scholars, you will find that networking begins with first-day introductions in the classroom. The students with whom you share classes and group projects also share your drive to improve, to take on more responsibility, and to lead. You join a student body that is diverse, both professionally and culturally. Some of these men and women will already be working in public relations; some are setting forth on a new professional path. With the largest international student population of any university in the country—and a faculty that represents a similar diversity in background and scholarship—NYU’s classrooms come alive with a cultural, professional, and intellectual discourse that has an innate global context.

NETWORKING AND PROFESSIONAL EVENTS
The Center for Global Affairs (CGA) offers public events featuring global experts that usually include a reception so students can network with speakers and guests. CGA also hosts the First Friday Luncheon Series Series in which CGA faculty lead conversations with global leaders for the CGA graduate community on the first Friday of every month (October–December, February–April), exclusively for CGA graduate students.

MSGA FIRST FRIDAY SERIES
Our community is extraordinary and committed to making a difference in the world. On the first Friday of the month during the academic year, the M.S. in Global Affairs community—faculty, students, and staff—meet to discuss critical global issues and share lunch. First Fridays are presented as a collaboration between the graduate program and the Global Affairs Graduate Society (GAGS) and feature speakers on a wide range of topics.

GLOBAL AFFAIRS GRADUATE SOCIETY (GAGS)
The Graduate Association for Global Affairs represents a diverse student body actively making connections between the academic pursuits of global affairs and the practical political landscape--through events, networks, career building, communication, cross-cultural understanding, and by providing a space for dialogue and student activism. In past years, the senior editor of Newsweek, a producer from 60 Minutes, and a senior fellow from the Council on Foreign Relations, among others, have spoken about current events and professional opportunities.

SCPS OFFICE OF STUDENT AFFAIRS
The SCPS Office of Student Affairs offers a wide variety of programs and services designed to help our diverse student population make the most of their NYU experience and grow within a community of scholars and fellow professionals. The Office of Student Affairs can provide you with information about academic resources, ways to get involved in student life on campus, and how to obtain assistance and support. From University and SCPS services to academic policies and protocols, there is a wealth of information with which to become familiar.

NYU UNIVERSITY-WIDE STUDENT CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS
In addition to the broad range of industry professionals and guest speakers you meet in the classroom, you may also choose to participate in any of NYU’s 350 clubs and associations as your primary venues for student involvement, career networking, and meeting classmates with similar goals, interests, and hobbies. Even as a part-time graduate student, you are encouraged to participate in student governance, graduate student organizations, and special-interest clubs. As an active graduate student, you are invited to an extraordinary array of events and opportunities to expand yourself both intellectually and professionally. You may participate in school-wide or program-specific forums, seminars, and conferences offered by the School, as well as by other NYU schools and colleges and their affiliated professional associations. These types of activities add greatly to your student experience and enhance your networking opportunities.
