CERTIFICATE IN GLOBAL AFFAIRS

Thinking about graduate school? Want to work in the global arena? Whatever your objectives, this renowned, 17-year-old course of study offers a solid foundation in global affairs, as well as a tool for understanding a world that is constantly evolving.

A comprehensive curriculum provides students with:

  • An in-depth understanding of political developments and alignments since the end of World War II, with special emphasis on the post-Cold War.
  • A basic grasp of factors, such as trade policies, role of multinationals, economic strategies of developing countries, and economic integrations, that shape today's economy and influence international relations.
  • Familiarity with international and non-governmental organizations, international law, and new and evolving procedures for dealing with international disputes and intrastate civil wars.

This certificate is awarded to students who successfully complete (with a grade of B or better) six courses--two required and four electives*. All electives must have course numbers that begin with GLOB1-CE.

The two required courses, International Relations in the Post World War II Era / GLOB1-CE9210 and The Politics of International Economic Relations / GLOB1-CE9251, will be offered each semester.  Electives rotate throughout the year.

*All Global Affairs courses (except GLOB1-CE1020 The Dollar and Its Rivals) can be used as an elective towards the certificate in Global Affairs - three one-day courses may equal one elective.

One scholarship for a student in the Global Affairs Certificate program is available annually. The award is competitive and based on a combination of financial need and demonstrated academic excellence in previous SCPS Global Affairs courses. For an application, call (212) 992-8380 or e-mail scps.global.affairs@nyu.edu. The application deadline is January 17, 2012.
