Bonnie Blake’s career in the graphic communications media industry began in the late 1970s as an advertising manager and then director of creative services (print) for major advertising agencies and media companies in the New York area. She had earned a B.A. in History with honors from Boston College in 1976.
She founded her own advertising agency in 1982, consulting with clients in design, corporate and brand identity, marketing, promotion and production. Her clients have included New York University, AT&T, Forbes Magazine, PepsiCo, CNN, National Geographic Television, HarperCollins, BlakeGlobal, Lucent Technologies/Caribiner, Tishman Realty, Chic and H.I.S. Jeans and Pitney Bowes/Zabit.
Bonnie completed her M.A. in Graphic Communications Management and Technology at NYU’s Steinhardt School of Education in 1987, began teaching in the program as an adjunct instructor in 1989, was the recipient of its student PRISM Award for Graphic Excellence in 1993, and began advising students in 1998. She now directs the program.
As program director, Bonnie is responsible for teaching, curriculum development, recruitment and supervision of adjunct faculty, and student advisement. She is the active liaison with the 50-member GCMT Advisory Board and serves on its Curriculum, International, Marketing and Prism Scholarship committees.
Bonnie also serves as the coordinating chair of the new Division of Media Industry Studies and Design at SCPS which includes, in addition to the M.A. in Graphic Communications Management and Technology, the Center for Publishing (and its M.S. in Publishing), the Center for Advanced Digital Applications (and its M.S. in Digital Imaging and Design), and continuing education programs in those fields, and Film, Digital Arts, and Design. Bonnie is committed to giving students pathways to take courses across multiple programs.
