Graduate Certificate in
Core Business Competencies

The new Graduate Certificate in Core Business Competencies offers an accelerated way to acquire a valuable credential to enhance qualifications and prepare for professional advancement. Available on-site, online, or in a combination of the two, the 18-credit curriculum can be completed in as little as two semesters and provides the broad-based, interdisciplinary knowledge and skill set essential for success in higher level executive roles in national and international organizations.

The five core courses—in business strategy and ethics, finance, human resource management, information technology, and marketing—represent the core competencies that every businessperson must be proficient in to succeed in today’s highly competitive global business environment.

The program is ideal for individuals who want to upgrade and update their general business knowledge and skills and earn a graduate level credential. Courses are taught with academic rigor by an outstanding faculty who are both practicing leaders in their fields and exceptional educators who bring real-world experience and networking opportunities into the classroom.

An important feature of the certificate is the required three-credit elective, which provides a unique opportunity for individuals to customize the curriculum to their own professional goals. In consultation with an advisor, students select a three-credit elective course from any of the 14 graduate program areas offered at NYU-SCPS in order to place the acquired core business competencies within an industry-specific context. This aspect of the curriculum makes the certificate immediately relevant to an individual's current career employment as well as to future career aspirations.

Those who complete the Graduate Certificate in Core Business Competencies with a B average or better may then choose to apply to one of our master's degrees.  Upon acceptance, and subject to departmental approval, all courses successfully completed will directly transfer into the M.S. in Management and Systems or the M.S. in Human Resource Management and Development, and many will satisfy course requirements for one of the other master’s degree programs offered at NYU-SCPS.
