CERTIFICATE IN STRATEGIC BUSINESS LEADERSHIP:
NEW RULES FOR THE GAME

Announcing a new executive leadership certificate for mid- to senior-level professionals looking to improve their leadership skills and organizational effectiveness.

Focused on developing potential and growing skills needed to thrive in today’s competitive business environment, the year-long program is comprised of core courses which provide a comprehensive overview of strategic business leadership; options for concentrations in Managing the Business, Managing the People, or Managing the Process that allow students to align their education with their career goals; and a final capstone project. Students take on a real organization as a client, understand its actual leadership issues disclosed by the board or senior executives, and work to focus and apply course content and techniques learned throughout the program to solve them—culminating in a final presentation.

The certificate confers a varied and deep executive skill set, and, upon completion, students are able to:

  • Align business units with organizational strategy
  • Understand strategy formation and execution
  • Create and maintain high-performance teams
  • Distinguish leadership from team membership
  • Deliver cross-functional communication and overcome silo effects
  • Make effective decisions and implement long-term organizational sustainability
  • Understand resource management in complex settings

Students are required to take both core courses and choose two courses from each of the three concentrations. Students are also required to take the Special Project in Strategic Business Leadership which runs throughout the entire program of study (one year) and is presented as a final project for the completion of the professional certificate. The entire program requires a total of nine courses. Each course runs for one and a half days. Courses are offered quarterly in pairs for a total of four, three-day sessions. The Special Project is incorporated into the meeting pattern as four hours per quarter, and worked on throughout the entire year.
