McGhee students may transfer in up to half of the credits required for their degree. To accept the transfer of credits, a McGhee administrator carefully evaluates your college transcript(s) to determine applicability of previous coursework to your selected program of study. In awarding these credits, we consider the content, complexity, and grading standards of courses taken elsewhere and their suitability for the program of study chosen here, without regard to how long ago they have been taken. Transfer credit must come from accredited institutions recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and is generally awarded for any course with a grade of C or better that fits within the degree program’s requirements.
Official copies of all previous transcripts must be sent to the NYU-SCPS Office of Admissions, 7 E. 12th St., Suite 921, New York, NY 10003. Transfer credits are not awarded until all official transcripts are submitted. A preliminary statement of transfer credits will be sent to you upon receipt of all official copies. The McGhee Advising Office can informally evaluate potential transfer credit using unofficial transcripts.
Writing and Math Transfer Policy
McGhee students are required to take the writing and math diagnostic exams. These are used to determine the appropriate writing and math course for you. Beginning with fall 2011 admission:
Writing
The writing diagnostic exam is waived for students who have been enrolled in college/university within the past two years and have taken the equivalent of McGhee's Writing Workshop 1 (EXWR1-DC7502). Students who do not have the equivalent of Writing Workshop 1 have the option to take the writing placement exam or provide a writing portfolio for review within their first semester at McGhee. The portfolio consists of a minimum of two recent papers the student completed in college courses.
Math
The math diagnostic exam is waived for students who have been enrolled in college/university within the past two years and have transferable credit in any of the following math courses to fulfill the McGhee Core requirement: College Algebra, Precalculus, Finite Math, Calculus or higher-level math courses. Some majors/concentrations have additional math requirements beyond the Core requirement. Your advisor will provide more detailed information. Students who do not have transferable math credit are required to take the math diagnostic and follow the prescribed course sequence.
Upcoming placement exam dates and exam registration information.
International Credit Evaluation
The McGhee Division welcomes students who have attended institutions of higher education outside the U.S. As part of the application for admission, we must receive an evaluation of each foreign transcript submitted. Evaluations determine equivalency to the U.S. educational system and are acceptable only from evaluation services recognized by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services. So that your courses may be considered for transfer credit, please request a course-by-course evaluation.
Official copies of transcripts and official translations must be submitted to the NYU-SCPS Office of Admissions, 7 E. 12th St., Suite 921, New York, NY 10003.
