At McGhee Online, you interact with your classmates and instructor through NYU-SCPS Online’s learning platform. While courses have specific start dates, end dates, and assignments, there are no specific class meeting times. This asynchronous format allows you to learn at your own pace and on your own schedule.
On a weekly basis, you will be expected to actively participate in class discussions, complete homework assignments and readings, and take part in team activities. To add richness to the learning experience, many course instructors provide you with opportunities to meet online, live via web conference, for group project meetings and instructor office hours. Participation in online meetings requires a web camera and a microphone.
Students who have completed a minimum of eight Liberal Arts credits at McGhee or at another accredited university or college and have received a C or better in a college algebra course may be able to complete their degree online in the following disciplines:
Students who have completed between 40-64 credits at McGhee or at another accredited university and have received a C or better in a college algebra course may be able to complete a degree online in the following discipline:
The NYU-SCPS Office of Admissions will review transcripts e-mailed to mcgheeadmissions@nyu.edu or faxed to (212) 995-4674 to determine a student's eligibility for online degree completion before they begin the application process. You must include a cover sheet with all transcripts submitted for review. Transcripts from all colleges and universities attended must be received for an evaluation of eligibility to be completed. Generally, transfer credits are awarded for courses in which the student received a grade of C or better, provided that the credits fit into the student's selected program of study and were completed at an accredited university.
McGhee offers a variety of degrees on-site. Students may still apply to on-site McGhee programs even if they do not meet the requirements for online degree completion. All students have the option of taking some courses online.
Quite some time may have passed since you last took any college writing or math courses. Therefore, upon admission, all McGhee students are required to take the Writing Placement exam, which is administered electronically through the McGhee Advising Office. In addition, students must provide proof of proficiency in college algebra. Students who reside in the United States are asked to take the College Board Accuplacer Elementary Algebra test. International students are asked to take either the SAT Subject Test for Mathematics Level 1, or the ACT Mathematics Test. Placement exam results determine the transferability of previous Math and Writing courses.
