Five courses in the B.S. in Healthcare Management have been approved by the New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Professional Credentialing, as meeting the educational requirement (Qualification 3) for individuals applying for nursing home administrator (NHA) licensure in the State of New York.
Students who intend to pursue licensure as nursing home administrators will meet this requirement through successful completion of the following courses:
| Financial Management of Health Services / Y13.2673 | 4 | |
| Gerontology / Y13.2678 | 4 | |
| Human Resources Management / Y10.0548 | 4 | |
| Legal Aspects of Healthcare / Y13.2670 | 4 | |
| Nursing Home Administration / Y17.2650 * | 4 | |
| * Note: The course Nursing Home Administration fulfills Qualification 5 (see Licensure Qualification 5 guidelines) because the course content “covers all of the areas as defined in 10 NYCRR 96.8.” However, the course must have been completed within the five years preceding licensure. | ||
Students can take these courses as a visiting student or incorporate them into an existing degree program.
McGhee’s B.S. in Healthcare Management is deemed a “degree in the field” by the New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Professional Credentialing, which confers added benefits to the NHA candidate, including a reduction in the amount of experience necessary to satisfy Qualification 4.
