CERTIFICATE IN CAREER PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT
This certificate program provides foundational training for professionals interested in beginning or advancing in the field of career planning and career management. It covers topics that support practitioners in helping clients explore short-and long-term career options, and design practical strategies for shaping and pursuing career goals. Areas of study include job search in today's Internet-driven marketplace, diversity issues in the workplace, career-related assessment tools, career planning and change for baby boomers, professional development, and others. The certificate counts toward recertification by the National Board for Certified Counselors.Upon completion of the program, students have attained the following:
Knowledge of career planning methods and resources, and familiarity with various techniques for working with individuals on career issues.
Exposure to a range of techniques for counseling and coaching individuals through career planning and development episodes.
Increased understanding of the contemporary workplace, and how to apply that knowledge to clients, students, or employees.This certificate is awarded to students who successfully complete five courses--three required and two electives.
This certificate has been restructured. Students who began this certificate prior to summer 2008 must complete seven courses to finish the certificate. Students have four years to complete all requirements.
