MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR
Dear Colleague,
Now is the best time ever to be a professional in the world of philanthropy and fundraising.
Why? Because every cultural, educational, and nonprofit institution or organization has an urgent
and growing need for financial support from the private sector; and because assisting institutions
and organizations to be financially secure is one of the most challenging and fulfilling careers a
person can have. Moreover, foundations and other grantmaking organizations are becoming more
focused and sophisticated in their grantmaking. The need for trained professionals and for informed
and knowledgeable philanthropists has never been greater.
At the George H. Heyman, Jr. Center for Philanthropy and Fundraising, we are developing the
next generation of strategic thinkers through our professional courses and certificate programs.
Although many of the courses open the door to beginners, we believe they offer a firm grounding to
all professionals in development and philanthropy.
The Center’s Master of Science in Fundraising courses, led by highly successful
practitioners and scholars, explore the dynamics and strategies of fundraising and philanthropy.
They offer rare opportunities for one-on-one discussion and contact with the course leaders.
There are hundreds of job openings for fundraisers today, and salaries are good. At the
Heyman Center, we strive to professionalize the field, and give people an opportunity to acquire
the skills that will enable them to take a dream and make it a reality.
Sincerely,
Naomi Levine, B.A., LL.B., J.S.D.
